1. Trail / Trio
Three cards of the same rank, such as three Queens. Higher triplet generally beats a lower triplet.
2. Pure sequence
Three consecutive ranks in the same suit, such as 7♠ 8♠ 9♠. The treatment of Ace-high or Ace-low sequences can vary.
3. Sequence / Run
Three consecutive ranks not all in one suit, such as 4♣ 5♦ 6♠. Confirm sequence order conventions.
4. Color / Flush
Three cards of the same suit that are not a sequence. Tie comparison rules vary by table.
5. Pair
Two cards of the same rank and a third card, such as two 8s. The pair rank is usually compared first.
6. High card
None of the combinations above. Compare cards under the rule set, commonly from highest down.
Practice example
A pair of Kings usually ranks above a pair of 5s. A sequence generally ranks above a flush in the common order shown here. Check the actual game rules if an app displays a different order.
