Before the first hand
Choose a dealer and decide the turn order. For learning, use no money, no paid entry and no prizes. The exact table rules differ between groups and apps.
A typical round
Each player receives three cards face down. Players take turns deciding whether to continue or fold, according to the agreed table rules. The round ends when only one player remains or the remaining players compare hands under the table rules.
Blind and seen play
Some traditional rule sets distinguish between playing before looking at cards (“blind”) and after looking (“seen”). The permitted stake units and how they change are rule-set-specific. This page does not encourage wagering; use points or a no-stakes practice setting only.
Showdown and winner
When a showdown is reached, compare the three-card combinations using the ranking order on the hand rankings page. If combinations tie, follow the exact tie procedure agreed before play.
A useful learning routine
Read the rules first, then practise identifying one hand at a time. Keep sessions short, take breaks, and stop if play stops feeling like entertainment.
