How to Play Teen Patti: The Ultimate Guide

From basic rules to advanced winning strategies, learn everything you need to dominate the 3 Patti tables and maximize your chip winnings.

The Goal of the Game

Teen Patti (often referred to as Indian Poker) is a thrilling 3-card game driven by strategy, luck, and psychology. The ultimate objective is simple: have the highest-ranking 3-card hand at the end of the game (the Showdown), or successfully bluff your opponents into folding so you can win the entire central Pot.

Teen Patti Sequence & Card Rankings

Learn the hierarchy of hands from highest to lowest. Memorizing this sequence is your first step to winning.

1. Trail / Set / Trio

Highest

Three cards of the exact same rank. Three Aces are the highest, and three 2s are the lowest.

Example: A♠ A♥ A♦

2. Pure Sequence

Rank 2

Three consecutive cards of the same suit. Also known as a Straight Flush.

Example: A♥ K♥ Q♥

3. Sequence / Run

Rank 3

Three consecutive cards, but not of the same suit. Just a regular Straight.

Example: A♠ K♥ Q♣

4. Color / Flush

Rank 4

Three cards of the same suit that are not in consecutive order. If tied, the highest card wins.

Example: A♣ J♣ 4♣

5. Pair

Rank 5

Two cards of the same rank. If two players have pairs, the one with the highest pair wins.

Example: K♠ K♦ 9♥

6. High Card

Lowest

If you don't have any of the above, your hand is judged by its highest single card.

Example: A♥ J♠ 5♣

Step-by-Step: How a Round is Played

1

The Boot Amount (Ante)

Before any cards are dealt, every player at the table contributes a minimum initial bet into the center pot. The dealer then deals three face-down cards to each player.

2

Playing Blind vs. Seen (Chaal)

When it's your turn, you have a crucial choice. You can play Blind (betting without looking at your cards) to keep your investment low. Or, you can look at your cards and play Seen / Chaal. If you play Seen, your bet amount must be at least twice the current Blind bet.

3

The Sideshow Option

If you are a 'Seen' player, you can request a 'Sideshow' (compare cards) with the previous player, provided they have also seen their cards. The player with the lower hand must immediately fold. The other player continues in the game.

4

The Showdown

Players continue to bet, raise, or fold. When only two players remain in the game, one of them can pay for a 'Show'. Both hands are revealed, and the player with the highest-ranking Teen Patti sequence wins the entire pot!

Essential 3 Patti Terminology

Chaal
The action of placing a bet after you have looked at your cards (becoming a 'Seen' player).
Pack / Fold
Dropping out of the current round. You lose whatever chips you've already put into the pot, but protect your remaining bankroll.
Pot limit
The maximum amount of chips that can be collected in the center before a forced Showdown occurs.

Pro Tips to Win Big

Play Blind Initially

Start the first few rounds playing Blind. It forces players with weak hands to fold early and keeps your chip risk minimal while observing the table.

Don't Be Afraid to Fold

In Teen Patti King, playing every hand is a surefire way to lose chips. If you look at your cards and have a low High Card or a weak Pair, fold immediately.

Bluff Predictably

If you always bet big on good hands and fold on bad ones, you become predictable. Occasionally bet strongly on a weak hand to bluff out timid opponents.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teen Patti Rules

What happens if two players have the exact same hand?

In Classic Teen Patti, if two players have the exact same hand ranking (e.g., the same pair and the same high card), the player who asked and paid for the 'Show' is considered the loser, and the other player wins the pot.

Can a Blind player ask for a Show?

No. A player playing 'Blind' cannot directly ask for a Show. They must first choose to see their cards (becoming a 'Seen' or 'Chaal' player) before they can pay the required amount to request a Showdown.

Is the Ace (A) considered high or low?

The Ace is considered the highest card in Teen Patti. It can form the highest Trail (A-A-A), the highest sequence (A-K-Q), and acts as the highest single card. However, it can also act as the lowest card to form an A-2-3 sequence in specific variations.
